Halloween Work

Just to finish up this month of Oct and Halloween, here are some of their school work sheets. We move fast into Nov and other holidays so lets finish this up first.

Thais's 1st grade school proof, taken on her actual birthday
My big boys Kinder photo
nothing to do with school, but a cute video of Bita being tickled by her papa
Tiago's sticker pumpkin
another 100% on her spelling test
Tiago's monster eats, tables, crayons, carrots, blue berries and donuts

tiago's class was allowed to eat candy but they had to count and do a graph of how many each first

Tiago's 10 owls and bats
count how many teeth they each have
this paper bothered me because Thais wrote the word BOY instead of LAD. She didnt know the word and even though it was the last word on her work sheet, she still wrote boy. I told her it was correct in my eyes. LAD really?

Halloween Night

Ok I admit this is probably my fav holiday of the year. Im not sure when it became my fav but it is. I just love holidays so much more now with kids and especially this holiday which to me is about being around friends and family, walking your neighborhood. I remember our Halloweens in Montreal and Detroit where we didnt go any where and not one person came to our door, so I got some making up to do and we are doing it. The kids wanted to go trick or treating before it got dark but I was trying to wait till my cousins and papa got home but I couldnt hold them off any more, so we crossed the street and did the circle. I admit it was tough by myself, trying to take picture, hold Bita hand and watch the big kids run ahead. They were so excited they they were already leaving a house with candy before Bita and I even got to the driveway. So we went back to our house after about 10 houses and got reinforcments. Papa was home, my cousins were ready, so they took all the kids and I stayed home to pass out candy. This was my first time staying home but I really enjoyed it, and being 8 months pregnant it was probably best. It was fun to see all of Thais's friends come by and my friends from high school stopped by too with their kids. I actually really enjoyed staying home a lot more than i thought. I at out on the front porch and watched all the fun. Thats when I heard a few kids say they were too scared to come to our house. I was able to check on the Laker game a bit too, its tradition either the Chargers or the Lakers play on Halloween. Papa was in charge of Bita and my cousins had the big kids, plus their dog who was dressed as super dog. It was my dog chewey's costume or my brothers dog but it has no been passed on. Sounds like the kids had a blast, they came back, we had pizza and called it a night. Another Halloween is in the books!

Pre Halloween

Im making this 2 posts on 2 days even though it was just one day because it really was such a long day. We started with the kids celebrating Halloween at school. I went early of course and helped both classes get ready. In Tiago's class, they decorated the mini oranges I showed yesterday, and then my Tia Lyddie had sent some halloween things for the kids to take home but they traced the stencils during class, they each got 2 stickers and 2 erasers, I helped Tiago get his costume on, then I rushed up to Thais's class. I guess i will mention I was dressed as a pink lady with a blonde wig and everything. The kids, teachers and parents didnt even recognize me, it was fun but hot! I used this same costume back in college, its always a good back up costume to have. I wish I still had my genie costume from my last pregnancy but I sold it already. So in Thais's class, we just helped them change then we went out to the grass field where the kids had their costume parade. Sadly papa forgot my camera so I dont actually have that many photos, I asked another mom to snap some and email them to me but she has not sent them yet. Thats ok you get the idea! After school we rushed home and started really decorating our house. I got out the fog machine but it didnt work, that didnt stop us though. We put out our milk gallon pumpkins, our real pumpkins, i found a scary sounds cd and set that up to play out the window, we got the strobe light set up on the ghost coming out of the pumpkin blow up, we did as much as we could and it all paid off, as we were for sure the most decorated house on the block, so much so that I heard kids tell their parents they didnt want to come to our house because it was too scary! Success at its fullest!

Actual Pumpkins

So now that we have our actual pumpkins, the carving ones we got at wal mart and the mini's we got at the pumpkin patch. Its time to finally carve them. Im old skol and like tod o faces but kids these days like to do characters, so they pick a charater, i look online for the stencil and print it and away we go, or I should say, away I go. I tape the stencil onto the pumpkin, poke holes like connect the dots then carve. Oh the kids cleaned them first. I made them clean the pumpkins themselves, gross, slimy, dirty hands and all. We seperated the seeds from the strings, so Kobae could eat some and we could cook the seeds and eat those too. Our secret to the seeds is a dash of cinnamon, it made the house smell so good and added some sugar to the salt of the pumpkin seeds. I was surprised that Thais really liked them, her eating habits as of late have been amazing. She is trying and liking and eating so many things she never would have even looked at 2 years ago. Tiago on the other hand is not liking much these days, so Im just hoping it is a phase. How ever when I sent seeds to school the next day for the kids to pass out to their class mates, Tiago then said he liked them a lot and finished the whole bag for his snack. Anyways while I spent hours carving the kids character pumpkins they started on our next project of milk gallon pumpkins. We did this last year but I enjoyed it much more this year for some reason. We start saving empty gallon jugs a few weeks before Halloween, then we cut a 1 inch hole in the back, draw faces on the front and then place a string of orange lights in the hole in the back and it looks like a pumpkin on our front porch. We get so many compliments on how easy, earth friendly, cheap and cute they are. How ever next year we will need to collect even more as we had extra lights left over. We also went over to our friends house and decorated our mini pumpkins with silly faces and stickers. And lastly on the day of Halloween since so many kids have allergies now a days and trying to stay away from candy, we got manderine oranges and had the kids during class decorate them like pumpkins but really its an orange. Its a healthy treat to all the candy usually given out at Halloween. I love this holiday and Im blessed to be able to share in the fun of it with my kids. It finally feels like Halloween around now!
